Yep - refining the operating and development budgets of each area is time well spent, both in terms of quantifying what the services cost to provide AND what it will theoretically take to see each area reach its own separate potential and do its own part to support the overall success of the Makerspace. It looks like all the pieces are in place - all that is left is polishing and getting settled. Well done.
Is it less work to use the same software as ENTS or is it less work to continue with the project so far?
If we use the ENTS system do we have more survivability than continuing with our project?
I understand that their system isn’t ultimate but it is up and running and working and its installed in more than one location. This gives us a support community to tap into if we run into problems in the future.
If anyone wants a better look around our space, you can join our chatroom at tang.ents.ca and query the camera system. We just installed 5 additional cameras, so you can really get a good look around, the aerial shots are sometimes easier to see the floorplan from.
I just captured all these shots now, so you’ll see some lit shops and some dark areas.
As kile said, we try to be super available and would love another space to share in some of the tools we use. We’ve started to customize a lot of the stuff to our needs, but your needs are likely pretty similar. If we could work towards a common goal, that’d be great.
If anyone has questions about ENTS or our experience I’m happy to answer them or at least offer what insight I can.
To ALL members if you buy something for the space (i.e.:coffee, cleaning supplies, organization bins) please note what it was and throw in the donation bin or give to the treasurer.
This can help in the application for grants.
@arasbm thanks Dennis for helping to clean up the new saw and get it set up. @Nicholas apologises about the dealing with Car People thing. @Chainmaildave thanks Mike from Lo-Boy for the awesome new saw.
6:55pm: Plan Next Meeting
Confirm the date and time of the next meeting (Normally second Thursday of each month at 6:00pm).
Tabled and propose on forum.
Ask for a rotating chair volunteer for next meeting
@Bradley-Maker we also have a PLC workshop at 6PM tomorrow… But you could just sign up for that.
Being able to debug industrial automation systems is not a bad idea, and having an idea of the right and wrong way to implement safety interlocks is always valuable…
Being the guy that points out: “When you turn on that blower, there is a pretty good chance the saw will start itself unexpectedly.” is much better than being the guy who gets hurt because somebody else is dumb.
@hdsheena Just had a chance to skim through these and I’d like to thank everyone for their efforts there. These foundation docs and procedures are not a lot of fun to create, but are super useful in defining and refining what the Makerspace is and how it functions.
I just found this post, great resource.
For larger groups, having three or more instructors on hand and dividing the group can make that pretty easy. I teach group and private lessons, if anyone wants to teach something and wants resources on how to actually TEACH stuff, please feel free to get in touch.
