Thank you, Torren for all of your hard work on making this happen. It is nice to see our home online back up and running.

Looks great so far, thanks Torren!

I imagine that more channels will be added soon?
Not sure if anyone has suggestions on the other channels, I'd suggest these as a start:
      - Woodshop - tool list and general wood shop posts
      - Fabshop - " " "
      - Hack Room - " " "
      - Electronics Room - " " "
      - Your Projects - an area for people to post what they are working on

Definitely looking for input on what channels to setup. We can sticky the posts that list tools/procedures.

I'm thinking individual channels for the laser and 3D printer, rather than putting them under the shop they reside in.

For classes, should we roll the classes under the shop/tool, or have a separate channel for classes & resources?

That's a great idea! There is so much info for each tool and ideas on things you can do with them it makes sense to have dedicated channels.

On that note I think a combined channel for the remaining CNC equipment would be helpful. Right now that would just be the Froggy 3020 and CNC router, but hopefully the CNC mill will be added to that list someday.

I think a separate channel for classes would keep the shop/tool boards less cluttered.
Then again if there is only a single stickied thread in most the shop space channels that isn't a whole lot of clutter.

Default timezone changed, new users should start off in Pacific time, everyone who's already joined will need to change their timezone. To do this, click on your name in the top right, then select My Profile, then Edit Settings, then Account.

3D printer and Drawbot are all full-on G-Code reading cnc machines as well. All of the same learning you do to understand the workflows and debugging from a 3d-printer can be crossed over to a big table-router or a CNC lathe. If you happen to have a laser-cutter or vinyl cutter using a g-code controller, it would be the same process again:
              • Draw art
              • Convert to g-code
              • inspect/modify g-code
              • controller interprets g-code to make step-direction pulses for N-axis worth of motors
              • each motor driver (one per axis) eat S-D pulses at specific timings and apply power to coils in the motors to make them step

Yes, the laser cutter and 3D printer both run using G-Code, and the code based operations are very similar. But knowledge in that area isn't mandatory to operate each of those and build a finished product. For the average person (me included) you simply don't need that tool set for 98% of what you are doing on both machines -the software takes care of everything.

Once someone is well versed in understanding g-code and other software interfaces it becomes possible for them to do a lot more in machining and utilizing the tools more efficiently. IMO its better to introduce members to tier based knowledge than to to throw it all out at once.

Can we have the daily email digest back? It is an important way to keep in touch with our membership to have the new posts sent in a daily email. Reminds people we are still active. I noticed subscribe buttons but I would have to subscribe to each thread individually.

A heading for donations as the order for donating things is supposed to be a pic on here and see if anyone is interested

It doesn't appear that there is a daily digest function for all forums, only for those items that you're subscribed to. We'll keep on the lookout for a solution.
