The Sharing Economy

  • Did you know that “on average a hand drill is used only 12 minutes during its entire life time”?

I listened to the sharing economy episode of under the influence today. It talks about how and why organizations that are embracing the sharing economy are rapidly growing, and the disruptions it is causing to corporations that base their business model on consumerism. I thought I share it here since that discussion really applies to what we are doing with makerspace. I look at makerspace as something much more that a library of tools; but that is one aspect of having a makerspace that would make it attractive when you consider how much money you would waste on tools that end up in storage and spend most of their life time idling.
