    Please see the message below from Lorel at the Arts Council

    Hi guys,

    I wanted to connect with you about possible collaboration for the 2018 Lumiere Festival. The Lantern Festival was formerly held in November, but we have changed the dates to Feb. 22-25, 2018, coinciding with the BC Winter Games in Kamloops. We would love to engage your members in some Lantern making workshops as in previous years, but even more exciting is some funding that we have targeted towards large scale installations. Can you please put the word out to your members to see if any are interested in creating some light based installations or displays? It is likely that we will plan these down at Riverside Park so that they are in view for the lantern parade and opening ceremonies for the BC Winter Games on Thursday Feb 22. We are budgeting a chunk of our funding towards this, and would love to hear your ideas and what we can do to help pay for some light installation projects.

    Please let me know if you have any questions.

    I take it we are in?

    Plans and ideas?

  • I have a tank of Helium balloon mix that I want to try floating some sort of LED display with. Clear plastic garbage bags with a lightweight display, and a tank of gas should be awesome.

  • Design Lab

    @pierre, floating cyber squid?

  • Design Lab

    @pierre, oh snap.

    This is awesome. I think this assembly method would require the positive pressure of the fan to keep inflated. I’m sure this wouldn’t scale up well as a helium filled version.

    Maybe a giant Cthulu head emerging from a doorway or some other structure, with other Lovecraftian horrors pulsing with light in the surrounding trees?

  • What if I put a small fan on it, and hang it from a body made of helium filled balloons? I just want a giant, glowing, tentacled beast in the sky. Adding some lift rotors might make it more viable. If it were powered using a tether to the ground you don’t need to lift batteries…

  • Have it impaled on a spear.

  • Next October We should have them sticking the windows.
