@pierre I would like to sign up for you workshop!
I am a nerd who likes to make stuff, so this is the place for me! I mostly sew and build/design costumes, but I can do other stuff too.
I currently supervise the @Craftorium, so if you have any questions about it, let me know!

RE: The 100th Hack - Wednesday, May 17th to Wednesday, May 24th 2017
I have been working on a plan for this event and a description to begin blasting on social media. So far my rough description is as follows:
“In order to celebrate the milestone of hosting 100 consecutive Hack Nights at the Kamloops Makerspace, we are proud to invite you to our Hundred Hour Hack running from Wednesday, May 17th at 5PM to Sunday, May 21st at 9PM! We are planning a variety of activities and workshops running 100 hours straight! Concurrently, we will be building a collective project which showcases the capabilities of the Kamloops Makerspace. Wednesday evening is free for all to come, admittance by donation for the rest of the weekend (recommended minimum $5 per day).”
We should probably first decide on what the big project should be. There was some good ideas thrown around yesterday so I encourage any other suggestions be posted here with a feasibility assessment to complete the project over the 5 days. I have also drawn up a spreadsheet that we can book the workshops/events on and a volunteer sign up schedule (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YOI0i2dHRGLjHwz6gu_GQWFpu0gnFJeMXf2f9AcwLsk/edit?usp=drivesdk).
There has also been a discussion of food being available for purchase so that is something else we will have to potentially organize with various sponsors (Senor Frogs, Kami Pizza, the Donair Place, Save-On Foods, etc…).
Anybody who is available to help out on the planning of this event please let me know and we can have a meeting soon!
Community Agency Fair at Brock Middle School Thursday March 16th
We have been asked if we are interested in attending this event:
The Explorations and Leadership students of Brocklehurst Middle School would like to invite you to
participate in our Community Agency Fair on March 16, 2017. The purpose of this fair is to bring
community groups together under one roof where our students and their families can learn about
the opportunities and supports offered in our community.
The format of the Community Agency Fair will look much like a craft fair or science fair.
Participating organizations will be assigned a table in our gymnasium where they can set up
displays and meet with visitors. We are inviting almost sixty different organizations to our fair, so
we are hoping for an exciting event.
There will be two times for visitors to attend the fair. First, our students will visit during the school
day from 12:30-2:45. Later that evening, families and community members will be invited to visit
Agencies and organizations who choose to attend will be asked to answer visitors’ questions and
share information about the services they offer. Presenters are not required to hand out prizes or
other items. If presenters are not able to attend both the afternoon and evening times, we would
be pleased to have you attend for one or the other.
I can be available to man the table for the first session, but we have 2 workshops happening that evening and I am running one of them. If anyone is interested in running the evening session, let me know, otherwise I will just sign us up for the daytime one.
RE: Sewing 101 - Introduction to Basic Sewing Techniques and Safety
@EarthshipSandra The aim of this particular workshop is on very basic introductory knowledge for those just wanting to learn to sew. There will be more advanced workshops coming up. I envision this workshop as something akin to high school home-economics, and we will be making a simple pin cushion with some embroidery. I have had several people ask about these types of classes. I personally do not have a lot of knowledge about quilting, and is a skill I myself would like to learn. We are hoping to build the Craftorium and supporting membership so that other members can begin to host workshops in areas they are skilled in. My area of expertise is mostly in costuming and prop construction. If this is something you are interested in doing, please let me know!
Sewing 101 - Introduction to Basic Sewing Techniques and Safety
Thursday March 16th, 2017
FREE for Makerspace Members, $40 for non-Members

This workshop will be focusing on introducing attendees to the basic sewing skills, tools and techniques needed to understand how to construct a project from start to finish. We will focus on hand stitching techniques and learn some basic embroidery to construct a useful tool for your future endeavours: a pin cushion!
There is only room for 6 attendees, but this is only the first in a series of planned sewing, needlecraft, and crochet/knitting workshops from the Craftorium.
